Sue,

What do I say...I wish I knew the right words. I have sat down to write you a note so many times over the past weeks and the words would not come. I wish I could be stronger and face the cancer as you are, but I am afraid. When I received the email update, I realized that I could put it off no longer. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. I will continue to pray for you and hope that your journey to cancer free is smooth. Keep believing in God to help you find your way and stay focused on the positive. The power of healing is not only medicine but believing. We love you!

God bless,

Anne, Mike, and Drew

Hi John & Sue!

Just wanted you to know that Tricia and I, along with the Central family will be praying for you while you are away. I read a verse in Proverbs today that I thought applied to your situation.

Proverbs 20:24 "A man's (or woman's) steps are directed by the Lord. How then can anyone understand his own ways?"

Footnote: God sometimes works in the lives of the righteous in such a way that they find it difficult to understand what is happening. We may be unable to see good in some circumstances, but the Bible encourages us to believe that God is nevertheless working behind the scenes for our good. (Romans 8:28)

We love you and are here for you!

Mark

Dear Sue, John and family,

Please know that our prayers are joined with the multitudes of others who will see you to a speedy and complete recovery. It is obvious from your postings that God is already granting you the gifts of peace and strength as you begin this journey. We'll be right there with you every step of the way.

May God continue to bless and watch over you all.

Sue!!!
I was elated to get back to my computer today and find these updates on your trip to Mexico! Last time we talked, you were determined to get there, and I should've known He'd make a way for you and John to do it! I will be praying for you both fervently that doctors, staff and friends you meet will bring you smiles, wisdom and healing through The One who deserves all of our praise!
We love you!

Hey Suzie!

As I write this, it's 8:40 a.m. (6:40 a.m. your time), and I'm thinking that you're probably getting ready to make the trip from San Diego to Sanoviv. I know that you've got several days of "diagnostic testing" to enable the staff to come up with a treatment program specifically for you. I also know that you're probably feeling a bit anxious right now, so I'm praying for the peace and strength that only God can give you... and that it's with you throughout your stay. I'm glad that "Chuck" is with you... someone has to look out for him. :-) Don't let him sneak back across the border for a Big Mac!

You'll be in our prayers everyday, knowing that God is preparing you for a ministry that He had planned for you from the beginning... how exciting! We love you, "Cream Cheese!"

Dear Sue & John
Just learned two days ago of your diagnosis, or we would of been in contact much sooner. Tears came and than prayers that our loving God will completely heal this disease that has attacked your body. Your decison to have treatment in Mexico will be Gods healing hand at his best. We know he guided you there for not only your health, but for the ones in the future that will benefit from your healing experience. We pray God will give you wisdom and strength for this journey that you are on. Know that you are loved.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Macco,

My name is Scott and I am the person who checked you into and out of the Sheraton San Diego during your treatment in Rosarito.

I just wanted to express to both of you my amazement at the strength that you both display in displaying nothing at all; you show no outward signs of the fear, grief, or anticipation of great tragedy or great elation for what looms on the horizon that must inevitably be within you during this most tumultuous time. Your grace and faith in the face of tremendous adversity is admirable and beatiful. Your apparent unwillingness to give in to such irrational emotions by disispating the fear with knowledge and understanding of what is ahead is both rare and powerful.

I would also like to share with you how genuinely touched i am that you would bring me, a relative stranger who knew you for only the two days that you were here at the hotel, into your lives by means of this website. I feel as if I know you so personally through the small revelations of your writings here. The reason I am in the business of hospitality at all is out of love for the warm, comforting gratification that comes from connecting with people's lives and becoming a permanent part of their memory and experience.

Your's is a unique and powerful story that I can appreciate, but never fully understand, and I am so impressed by the courage and passion that you must have to be creating a foundation to help others overcome a force that you, Mrs. Macco, have not even yourself yet conquered.

Finally, I want to wish you luck and offer my prayers as you persevere through the struggles, triumphs, tears and joy that will lay in your path to healing yourselves and the others that you aim to heal through the sunflower foundation. Remember (you two and all who might read this) through it all, as a relative stranger once reminded me in one of my grimmest times of need, that even when time feels like a precious commodity, through strenth and faith (or strength OF faith) it is a commodity never to be spent or wasted; rather, when time is occupied by sharing in the lives of others, we only gain time.

I will be checking back on this site to follow you through your epic, and I sincerely hope to keep in touch with you at least via this wonderful, outreaching and uplifting blog. I further hope to host you again here at the Sheraton when you come again to San Diego so that i might come to know your persons and personalities better, and that I might help ease your struggle if even a little bit for a little while.

Thank you, and warmest regards from

Scott Hartman

Dear Sue & John,

Scott and I are keeping you in our prayers daily and we just wanted you to know that. One of my favorite scriptures has always been..

Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.

We love you both. Lynn & Scott

Hi Suzan,
This is Donna (the tech who performed your mammogram). I'm glad to know that I put your care and concerns at ease, as much as I could. I love what I do, I love my job, and to have a patient as yourself to acknowledge the care that we give to patients here at St. Vincent Hospital in GB, is a wonderful thing to hear. And yes, it is hard and difficult to give a patient the results of a mammogram, when the outcome is not what that person wants to hear. Sometimes it is very difficult for me and my co-workers to give a patient her or his,(the non-talked about male breast cancer) their results. But we do understand and show compassion and heartfelt sincerity to all patients that walk through our doors.
2 Corinthians 4:18

I wish you well on your journey to recovery. And hope if you ever wish to come back to St. Vincent Hospital for any of our services, we welcome you and your family. God bless you and your family, and I wish the best for you.
Philippians 2:14-15

Sincerely,
Donna

My dear friends Suzy and John, I was wondering why I hadn't heard from you recently. It never seems it would ever happen to us...we are the ones to take care of others. I will be checking on you everyday now. This way I will be able to keep track of you and your progress. I will be thinking of you and praying for your long journey ahead. Love you, Donna

Both of you have been in our thoughts and prayers. I must say that your story is inspirational. There are many people who could benefit from your message of hope, faith and healing....mostly those health care professionals who were so nonchalant along your journey. I have to admit that reading your description of the care process and the attitude displayed by many people was personally very painful. First things first....healing. Once that is complete I would love to talk about your experiences and how others could benefit from your story. I have started a concept I am calling the Institute for Health that I think you would be very interested in.....and could be a real asset with your participation.

By the way John you have always been known as Sue Macco's husband.

Lots of love from here to there.....

Hi Sue! I talked with Nick today and he gave me the latest update and said you are doing well after the lumpectomy. Good for you!!! From the postings it sounds like Lydia's time at Remuda Ranch--hard work!!! There is not much rest but you are fighting a disease that takes a lot of energy between the tests, the treatments, the nutrition and other counseling. I am so glad John could be with you this first week. It would have been too hard for him to be home and just "hearing" about everything. Now he knows first hand what it is all about there.

Sue, no matter how difficult this is, how time consuming, how frustrating at times, I am sure you are seeing God's amazing work all around you. His fingerprints are EVERYWHERE!! Your family will be even more bonded because of what you are walking through together. I truly love how these trials are opportunities for change and growth in us. I also am so amazed at God's wisdom in not allowing us to know the future but having us live one day at a time. We tend to worry too much, plan to much and waste too much time, trying to control everything. LET GO, LET GOD. As He walks ahead of you, just place your feet in the footprints He makes and follow!!!

You are a dear friend, Sue. We are all praying for you and thanking God for being ALL that we need.

I love you,

John and Sue:

You are in our hearts, our prayers and our thoughts daily. We wish you both strength, humor and courage as you progress through this endeavor

I have tried to think of some inspirational quote to pass along, but realized that it is impossible for me to offer inspiration to those that have truly inspired me. For that I thank you.

We look forward to having you home.

Sue,
I found a wonderfully encourageing passage as I had my quiet time this week. I am claiming this for you in my prayers. The entire chapter is powerful, but I will quote just some.
Psalm 91:1-2, 11. He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almightly. I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust."...For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. You Are Loved.

Hey guys,
we have been praying for you. Praying for wisdom, healing, peace, and the continued success of the business. I am glad to read the awesome reports from Mexico. God works so many things out in our life even in the storms. You and John are awesome friends and our love and prayers are especially extended to you at this time. I was so EXCITED to read about the Sunflower Foundation. I cannot wait to see what God is going to do. As your sister and friend I am so very proud of you and you are an inspiration to all of us.

Dear Suzie and John,
Glad to hear you are home safe and sound! Your journey has not been an easy one, I can imagine. But, no journey that gives us growth is ever easy. Look at all the people you have touched with your faith and trust in our God!! It is beautiful to watch your relationship with God grow and with each other grow too. Today, I want to encourage you that what your are going through is not in vain. That there is a bigger purpose that none of us can see clearly yet. Keep trusting, keep the faith, (in the One Who is the Author and Finisher of it.) And never forget you are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses who love you very much. We are in this fight with you! Keep worshipping and praising God right through it all. Press on to the high calling in Christ Jesus our Lord...

Standing alongside you with love and prayers,

HI Sue,
What a great site! It's neat to get to know your friends through their letters to you. I'm so glad you've got the support of so many friends. Isn't it great to get cards and fun stuff in the mail? Who needs bills? Aaauuugh!
My co-workers keep sending me funny cards as a reminder that laughter is the best medicine. The book for kids that I was telling you about, written by another mom at our school who is a recent breast cancer survivor, is "Last Year, This Year" by Kelly Corrigan. It was helpful for my Elise to look at it from the perspective that there will be a next year, it just might be a bit different than we expected.
No doubt about it... having cancer sucks! But having great friends REALLY helps us get through. What a mind trip, huh! I'm glad I'm here to tell the story and try to be a bit of a guide for you. Keep the picture of us on our hill by the river close in your mind, and remember you have friends praying for you coast to coast. I'll see you this month, finally!
Love and hugs to you and the family,
Marie

Good morning Sue!

It was so good to see this weekend at the 50th. You look great! I know we didn't get to talk much, but I hope you are doing as well as you look. Joan keeps me up-to-date as to where you are and what is going on. I pray that all you have endured will be the cure...the cancer gone. I will continue to pray and await the progress reports.

God bless,

Anne

Susie,

This site makes tears come to my eyes, instantly....I have not even read 99% of the replies, just scrolled down and the tears began.

I was at your house the very day you discovered this problem yet none of us knew about it as John was at work. It was also my last day in the USA for the forseeable future and little did I know how things were going to change over the next few months.

You really are lucky to have John, Michael and Nick around you and many others to numerous to mention, but they are here with you in one way or another including your dad in his own way now, carving away in heaven.

But it's much too early in your life to see what he is carving, so keep up the fighting spirit that your dad gave to you in your genes along with mom's long life young looking genes.

Get well and come to London someday.

Love,
Michael

Went back and read all of your sentiments. They mean so much! Don't ever forget those that continue with their battle. You can't imagine how much it helps.

Much love to you all!
Sue
